Social Secretary

Hey, I`m Matthew and I`m the Social Sec for this year. I am a second year BSc Archaeology student, loving every minute of being in Durham. When it comes to picking my main interests in archaeology, it is so hard to decide because everything about archaeology is so fascinating! What I do know is that my favourite time period would have to be the Vikings. As your social sec this year, keep your eyes open for the number of socials we intend to host and if you have any ideas feel free to get in touch and email me.

Webmaster

Hi, I'm Gary an amateur underwater archaeologist, small finds researcher and illustrator (and web designer!). Having recently gained a degree of Master of Philosophy at the University of Durham, my new main focus is researching the Durham River Wear Assemblage (DRWA); an important group of objects described as a major research facility, probably the largest collection of late- and post-medieval finds in the North of England: a unique regional and national resource.

In my spare time I help to coordinate an innovative community engagement initiative which sees the Durham City Freemen working with Durham University Museums and the Department of Archaeology (University of Durham) to provide a guide to the late-medieval craft-guilds in Durham through the presence of their artefacts in the DRWA (Durham City Freemen/History Group). I am also is the Museum of London Archaeology's (MOLA) external expert for late- and post-medieval lead cloth seals, and the 2013 joint winner of the Finds Research Group for a research report on an un-paralleled late-medieval pectoral cross associated with the shrine of St. Cuthbert (Finds Research Group/Geoff Egan Prize).
